Janina Gawler, CEO of ANTA gives her perspective on the use of elearning and online technologies in VET.

Frank Bate interviews Janina Gawler



Janina Gawler became the chief executive officer of Australian National Training Authority (ANTA) on July 28, 2003.

Ms Gawler came to ANTA from international mining company Rio Tinto, where she was chief advisor, sustainable regional development for the Argyle diamond mine in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. She was accountable for the design and implementation of a sustainable communities program, which focused on the development of a locally based skilled workforce, to underpin the potential expansion of the mine in 2007.

She began her career as a secondary school teacher in 1975, became a social science consultant with the Victorian Department of Education, managed the Aboriginal Education Programs in the Echuca region (1985-90), was a councillor and then Mayor of Echuca in northern Victoria (1987-91) and a change management and strategic management consultant (1990-'95), before she accepted a position as an executive director with the then Department of Employment, Training, and Youth Affairs in the mid-90s.
